What is a Querx?
Querx is the word for “dwarf” in the Upper Lusatian dialect. According to legend, the Querxes are said to emerge from a small cave on the Breiteberg in our neighbouring village, which is why it was called the “Querx cave”.
The word is also used colloquially for children, which is why, for example, a children’s holiday camp nearby is called “Querxenland” and some kindergartens in the area also have “Querx” in their name.
